Choosing to Live in Hope, Not Guilt

We Don’t Have to Live With Guilt & Shame

Guilt and shame are not from God; God gives hope .  Sometimes I think that we are so “used” to hearing the devil’s lies that we tolerate them on a daily basis.  It’s like we have a rain cloud floating over us where ever we go, but the rain cloud is attached to a pedestal resting on our shoulders….all we have to do is lift it off, set it down, and walk into the sun! We are so used to having lies and clouds over us that we tolerate it without question.

There is a difference between condemnation and conviction.  God does not come to condemn us, He convicts us of our sin, which will always bring us HOPE! Isn’t it amazing how God can show us our sin, but yet, we are hopeful? Condemnation comes from the devil, he will do everything in his power to hold us back in a place of shame and guilt.

There is an amazing devotional I found in the You Version bible app that explains the hope that the Holy Spirit gives.  It says, “Satan brings you to despair of self, but never to hope in Christ. The Holy Spirit brings you to despair of self and to hope in Christ. Hope is a signature mark of spiritual mourning. That’s how you tell the difference between the work of the devil and the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.” Find this devotional here and read Day 7.

We Are God’s Heirs

We are God’s heirs (Galatians 4:7).  Through the cross, we were given power and authority to speak peace and life into a situation and see the atmosphere change! We have the royal authority to walk in peace in our homes and all of the areas in our lives.  Step up to be the powerhouse prince and princesses that we are meant to be! This is where I get on my soap box….our words are so powerful.  We have the ability to speak life or death into our own lives (and others lives!). What are you saying about yourself? What are you speaking over your life? Are you speaking health, healing, and God’s promises or are you speaking sickness, shame and death?

Yes, life is not always a box of chocolates, but we can still choose to focus on God’s hope and promise.   Choose to speak life into your lives knowing that we have the POWER & AUTHORITY to break the cycle of death and defeat and to move the rain clouds in our lives.  We can choose to trust in Him and know that He can turn bad situations into life-giving miracles for His good and the good of His people (Romans 8:28).

Choose Hope, Not Guilt

Did you catch that?….WE CAN CHOOSE.  It is not easy to speak positively in the midst of chaos.  I struggle with this daily.  Just like with any bad habit, it takes time and effort to break.  I encourage you to speak to the clouds in your life and lay it at the alter.  Galatians 5:24 says, “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there,” so lets remind the devil of that amazing miracle.

The devil is real and out to destroy you (John 10:10), and he is doing everything in his power to keep you from your God-given purpose.  The devil uses temptation to bring you down, but he uses accusations (guilt and shame) to KEEP you down.  Choose to hear God’s promises, not the devil’s lies.  Do not let the devil keep you from your purpose!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the miracle of the cross.  Thank you that you bring us hope, purpose, and a future.  Forgive me for living with shame and guilt, I give it to you.  Show me the areas in my life where I am not trusting you, and give me the strength to let them go.  Holy Spirit, teach me to speak Your promises into my life.  Convict my spirit when I am speaking death over a situation in my life.  Help me to stand firmly and without a doubt on your promises.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
